Parvo concerns may suspend Sonoma County animal shelter adoptions for third day

Published Thursday January 26

Officials were weighing whether to suspend adoptions at Sonoma County’s animal shelter for a 3rd consecutive day Thu as they continued to take steps to contain an outbreak of canine parvovirus that so far has resulted in the shelter putting down 6 dogs.

The Century Court facility has been cleaned and disinfected multiple times, with staff authorized for overtime to get the work done, remarked John Skeel, the county’s animal services director.

Skeel stated every dog inside the shelter has been administered a booster shot for parvo as extra precaution against the highly contagious virus.
